New leader says a visit to Shriners Children’s in Mexico was “life-changing”

Shriners Children’s has been expanding greatly in Mexico, and the system has hired a new administrator to oversee the country’s four – soon to be five – new clinics.

David Rodríguez-Fraga, M.D., MHA, who attended medical school in Mexico at the Universidad del Valle de México and studied health management in the United States, started the role in May.

Dr. Rodríguez-Fraga’s vision for the Mexico clinics is to provide more places for children to get the specialized care they need. “This will be a great benefit to families,” he said, “as they will be more likely to seek treatment if options are closer to where they live.”

Dr. Rodríguez-Fraga shared that when he interviewed for the role at Shriners Children’s, he encountered a wholly different healthcare organization – and the impact was “life-changing.”

“I got to see a community of mothers and how they support each other,” he stressed. “This made me see that Shriners Children’s would be a great organization to work with. At this point in my professional life, I feel I can use all of my experience for the good of this mission.”

Shriners Children’s has clinics in Monterrey, Culiacán, Tijuana and Guadalajara, with one in Chihuahua expected to open this fall.
