Community Conversations Summer 2025

Dear Readers,

At Shriners Children’s, we’re always striving to bring the best care to the children we serve. We challenge ourselves to grow and improve. Our nurses, doctors and staff embrace a culture of curiosity and excellence, always asking, “How can we do even more?” We are rooted in our mission to serve children and change lives.

I’m certain that is what was reflected in the Forbes poll that named Shriners Children’s as America’s Best Midsize Employer for 2025 out of the nearly 500 entrants considered.

Caring for children – especially those with complex medical needs – is not just what we do; it’s who we are, and we are very good at it. This recognition reaffirms what we’ve always known: Shriners Children’s is a truly special place powered by the smartest, most compassionate and most dedicated professionals in healthcare.

So, YES – we take immense pride in our workplace. We love sharing our mission and celebrate every opportunity to say, “I work at Shriners Children’s, where we provide the Most Amazing Care Anywhere.”

I hope – I believe – that when our families walk through our doors, they feel that this place means as much to us as it does to them.

I invite you to enjoy this issue’s many stories of hope, healing and life-changing care. I wish you and your family a fun and fulfilling summer.

Sincerely,

Mel Bower

Patient Perspectives

Staff at Shriners Children’s St. Louis were deeply moved by a heartfelt surprise from a patient named Hannah and her sisters, Lydia and Eden. The trio wrote thoughtful notes thanking their care team for the kindness, comfort and support shown during Hannah’s treatment. It’s moments like these – filled with gratitude and connection – that remind us why we’re here.

“I love going to Shriners Children’s! Thank you for helping me and friends like me!”

— Hannah

“Thanks to you, my sister can cartwheel through life!”

— Lydia

“Thanks for helping my sister walk and run and play.”

— Eden
