Small Changes, Big Impact

Lura has been reunited with her beloved stuffy, Rubble, thanks to the generosity of Shriners Children's Chicago team member Aliza.

When Rubble goes missing, a staff member saves the day

The kindness and generosity of Shriners Children’s Chicago patient access team member Aliza averted heartbreak for one distraught 4-year-old.

Last December, Aliza received a message about a patient’s mom who had called in distress. Her daughter, Lura, had left her favorite stuffed animal, Rubble, in the lobby the day before. Lura’s mom, Crystal, said her daughter relied on the stuffed pup to comfort her during treatments. Despite a thorough search, Rubble was nowhere to be found.

A few days earlier, Aliza had won an Amazon gift card in a drawing for prizes donated for the Chicago hospital’s employee holiday lunch. She used her gift card to order a replacement Rubble, shipping it with a personal message for Lura that read, “Sent with love from the Shriners Children’s Chicago Patient Access Team.”

Crystal is incredibly grateful for this gesture. “Lura was so sad to lose her Rubble; I was so amazed and thankful for the patient access team and their generosity in delivering a replacement Rubble for my daughter.”

The generous gesture from a Shriners Children’s staff member brought a beloved comfort stuffy back to Lura and is a reminder that sometimes the little things make a big difference in a patient’s life.
