Big Things Happening at Shriners Hospitals for Children — Chicago

Two physicians at Shriners Hospitals for Children — Chicago are making major moves.

Kathy Zebraki, M.D.

Dr. Zebracki Named New Fellow of the American Psychological Association

Kathy Zebracki, Ph.D., has been named a new Fellow of the American Psychological Association (APA), effective January 1, 2021. She is the chief of pediatric psychology at the Chicago Shriners Hospital where she serves as a clinician, educator and researcher.

According to the APA, “Fellow status is an honor bestowed upon APA members who have shown evidence of unusual and outstanding contributions or performance in the field of psychology. Fellow status requires that a person’s work has had a national impact on the field of psychology beyond a local, state or regional level.”

Dr. Zebracki also serves on the board of directors for the American Spinal Injury Association and the Steel Assembly.

 

Gabriela Martinez, M.D.

Welcome Dr. Martinez

The Chicago Shriners Hospital welcomes Gabriela Martinez, M.D., a board-certified physical medicine and rehabilitation physician and physiatrist. She practices in the pediatric rehabilitation/spinal cord injury service.

Dr. Martinez has experience managing the rehabilitation needs of children with cerebral palsy, spinal cord injury, spina bifida, traumatic brain injury/concussion, neuromuscular disorders, oncologic diagnoses, chronic pain and other pediatric-onset disabilities.

She is a member of several professional organizations including the American Academy for Cerebral Palsy and Developmental Medicine and the American Congress of Rehabilitation Medicine.

She has published and presented health care topics on children with disabilities. Dr. Martinez is a native Spanish speaker who grew up in Chicagoand aspires to bridge the gaps in medical care that may occur due to language barriers.
