Speech Language Pathologist Receives Top Fellowship

Director of the Chicago Shriners Hospital’s cleft palate/plastics team receives fellowship

Mary M. O’Gara, MA, CCC-SLP, was named a Fellow of the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA). She is the first ASHA Fellow in the Shriners Hospitals for Children system. O’Gara received her award in November at the ASHA Convention in Orlando, Florida. “Fellowship is one of the highest forms of recognition given by ASHA of an individual’s accomplishments and is a public declaration of your outstanding professional achievements,” wrote Brian B. Shulman, Ph.D., CCC-SLP, ASHA Fellow, Chair, ASHA Committee on Honors, in O’Gara’s award notification letter.

A board-certified speech language pathologist, O’Gara is a nationally known lecturer and instructor, and director of the cleft lip and palate and plastic surgery services at Shriners Hospitals for Children — Chicago. She also serves as a graduate instructor in the Northwestern University Speech Language Pathology master’s program, teaching about craniofacial anomalies, including cleft palate.
